TERRIERS FX PRESS RELEASE: Terriers from Creator/Executive Producer Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven, Matchstick Men) and Executive Producer Shawn Ryan (The Shield), is a comedic drama starring Donal Logue (The Tao of Steve) and Michael Raymond-James (True Blood). It centers on “Hank Dolworth” (Logue), an ex-cop, who partners with his best friend “Britt Pollack” (Raymond-James) in an unlicensed private investigation business. Comedic, edgy, original, a show about high stakes in the face of low expectations, Terriers explores what it’s like in today's America to be “too small to fail.” Co-stars include Laura Allen (Dirt) as “Katie,” Britt’s girlfriend; Rockmond Dunbar (Prison Break) as “Detective Mark Gustafson,” former colleague of Hank; and Jamie Denbo (Weeds) as “Maggie Lefferts,” Hank’s attorney. Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow, The Shield) directed the pilot episode. Terriers is produced by Fox 21.
TERRIERS “Pimp Daddy” Ninth Episode Review, Airing 11/3/2010
This week’s TERRIERS accurately entitled episode, “Pimp Daddy” brings us an unlikely pairing of Britt and a transvestite hooker and you thought last week’s partner switcheroo was a hoot, just wait until this week. I love this episode but then again I have yet to come across an episode of TERRIERS that I didn’t love. Each episode has a unique turn of events that is supported by a strong storyline, incredible acting and superior direction. “Pimp Daddy” is written by one of my favorite writers, Shawn Ryan (Episode 2 “Dog and Pony”) and Kelly Wheeler and is directed by the one and only Adam Arkin. I am a huge fan of Adam Arkin’s work on and/or in “Sons of Anarchy”, “Monk”, “Justified”, “The Closer”, “The Riches” and “Rizzoli & Isles”.
One thing I bet you didn’t know about Hank Dolworth (Donal Logue) is that he can put together a kick ass love song. Yes, there is nothing that Hank can’t do except maybe let go of the past and accept that things will never be the same. Luckily, Hank has Britt Pollack (Michael Raymond-James) in his life because who else would hook your cabinets up with magical goodness? It’s the little things that count in the friendship world and knowing that when you reach up a finger will always be ripe for the pulling.
While Hank is pumping iron with Britt’s encouraging companionship, Hank’s physical therapist offers them a case. He is not impressed with Hank’s work-out schedule and lackluster insurance plan so he trades their private investigating skills for his therapeutic expertise in order to help his nephew out. Britt visits the nephew, Cody (Cameron Monaghan) to find out how he can help. Cody explains to Britt that he was robbed and that he needs help getting his money back. That leads Britt down an interesting path that doesn’t have him looking to party but involves him teaming up with a transvestite hooker in order to find out who murdered her friend. Britt goes to Reynolds (Craig Susser) for some help because apparently Detective Gustafson (Rockmond Dunbar) is off somewhere soaking up some sun. In fact, that is my only complaint about this episode is that we didn’t get any Rockmond Dunbar for our viewing pleasure. I enjoyed watching Detective Gustafson bend the rules with Hank last week and I love saying Rockmond!
Katie (Laura Allen) gets to meet Britt’s new friend as she is still wrestling with her mistake. Really, how could anyone cheat on Britt? Britt is so sweet and perhaps his only downfall is that he cares too much and that isn’t a downfall for Katie but for him because I have a feeling that she is going to end up breaking his heart if he finds out about her affair. Katie did forgive all of his previous wrongdoings so maybe he will have it in his heart to forgive her but can it ever be the same after infidelity?
Hank isn’t done putting a damper on Gretchen’s (Kimberly Quinn) premarital bliss since using her finance’s credit cards wasn’t enough for him he conducted a background check on Jason Adler (Loren Dean).
I could go on and on about this episode but I am not going to ruin it for you. It ends painfully sweet and sour and I will leave it at that. TERRIERS may not be getting Royalty ratings but it is King among its fans. Don’t let this quality show slip into television abyss so make sure you support it every week and recommend it to everyone. Watch TERRIERS Wednesday nights at 10 PM EST only on FX!
