We have waited all season to find out exactly why Wes (Warren Kole) pulled a gun on his partner, Travis (Michael Ealy) that resulted in both of them being sent to couples’ therapy by their captain (Jack McGee) as part of their deal to be reinstated. Wreaking havoc wherever they go, Wes and Travis even manage to get kicked out of their group with Dr. Ryan (Sonya Walger).
With a new therapist (Ed Begley Jr.) who seems to be in greater need of therapy himself than his patients, Wes and Travis beg Dr Ryan to take them back, in exchange for telling her the full story of why they were there in the first place.
So begins a flashback to five years ago when Wes is introduced to Travis at the shooting range by a mutual friend and fellow cop, David Pak (Kelvin Yu), aka Pak-man. At the time, Travis was in Narcotics and Vice while Wes was working in Missing Persons. Both had been investigating a series of homicides with common links. It turns out Pak was right about Wes and Travis, and the pair solved the case together. Thus begins a beautiful partnership that saw them promoted to Robbery Homicide Division.
As Wes and Travis’ partnership thrived they decided to help out their old friend with some cases, bringing Pak to the attention of the leader of the Special Investigations Section (SIS), John Corral (Dominic Purcell). Unfortunately for Pak-man, it turns out the SIS is a bunch of very elite but very corrupt cops, and time is running out for Wes and Travis to catch them with their hands in the cookie jar once and for all.
COMMON LAW wraps its freshman season with strong performances from its two leads – the newest bromance in town. Personally, I am not a big fan of flashbacks as a storytelling device (this episode coming hot on the heels of Suits airing the previous night on the same network with a flashback episode entitled “Rewind”), but “Gun!” works mostly because you could almost imagine this episode to have been the start of the series.
Tune in to find out if Wes and Travis catch the bad guys, if they stay together and whether or not they will continue couples therapy.
COMMON LAW season finale airs Friday, August 10 on USA Network at 10/9c
Guest Stars: Dominic Purcell, Kelvin Yu and Ed Begley Jr.
