OZZFEST stopped by the Comcast Center in MA and despite the awful weather it ended up being one hell of a night. Unfortunately, Ozzy only allowed the newspapers to photograph him and they didn’t even show up. So, I apologize that I don’t have any Ozzy photos to share with you because I would have braved the weather for some cool Ozzy shots! It ended up being all about the Crue for me. I’ve seen Motley Crue several times and they are always a good time. It’s great having them all together again and I am happy I got to see Tommy Lee this time. When I covered the Crue Fest last year Tommy Lee was not on the drums due to a sparkler mishap and I missed him. Tommy Lee took a break from the drums and came out front to play some piano for us and show us that he really cares about women. Anytime now I’m sure Tommy Lee will be filming his own Public Service Announcement (PSA) about breast health. Yes, girls were whipping their boobs out for Tommy and even some man boobs were involved. It is very clear that we all love Tommy Lee and I have never even seen the video. There is only one MOTLEY CRUE that consists of Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Vince Neil and Mick Mars and they are just perfect together and no one can ever replace them. My favorite songs were “Dr. Feelgood”, “Girls, Girls, Girls”, “Shout at the Devil”, “Home Sweet Home”, and “Kickstart My Heart”.

I have seen OZZY many times and after being in the rain all day, I wasn’t expecting much buy Ozzy really brought it. He opened with parodies of “Twilight”, “Jersey Shore” and “The Hangover” and they were hilarious. Then he ripped into “Bark at The Moon” for the first song. The set was a great mix of old and new Ozzy, including a couple of Black Sabbath. I think they only played a couple off of the new album. I was very impressed with Gus G, the new guitarist. He also had Tommy Clufetos on drums and Blasko on bass. Ozzy and Gus had a great chemistry. When they brought out 9 year old Yuto Miyazawa for “Crazy Train”, I was really blown away. Ozzy was like a little kid in a grown man’s body. It is funny how going “crazy” in 2010 means dumping your head in a bucket of water instead of biting the heads off of bats like it did decades ago. It was a very tight set with a good selection of songs. I was very pleased by this year’s Ozzfest, despite the weather. “Fire in the Sky” was definitely my favorite.

HALFORD was so fun to see and photograph live and I love how Rob Halford even referred to himself as “The Metal God”, that was so sweet and what a way to own it. I’ve seen him live a couple of times with Fight and man what a singer but you already know that. The audience loved him and really cheered him on when he sang his electro robot song. He is the only man I know that can rock a fringe coat and still look cool! DEVIL DRIVER and NONPOINT also performed on the main stage and did a fantastic job.

Unfortunately, thanks to the lackluster weather, the outside stages were ruined an only a few bands made it on. The top two bands were unable to play so everyone missed BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and DROWNING POOL. KINGDOM OF SORROW was the last band to brave it out on the second stage. I was really looking forward to seeing them. I have never seen Black Label Society but I have seen Drowning Pool several times and I have always enjoyed their set. The fans were not happy that they had to miss out since they were stuck in the rain for the entire day and didn’t get to see all the bands that were on the bill. That is always the biggest drawback of outside festivals. All in all, OZZFEST turned out to be fun despite the lousy weather.
