“Dorylus” Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Episode 3 Advance Review, Airing 9/20/2011

Last week on SONS OF ANARCHY we were introduced to members of the Galindo Cartel, Romeo (Danny Trejo) and Luis (Benito Martinez). Should SAMCRO go into business with the Cartel?  It is a question that doesn’t come with an easy answer. Clay (Ron Perlman) is looking to secure his future and Jax (Charlie Hunnam) wants out of the club but drugs, they have never been about running drugs.  Oh, Kurt Sutter and the twisted webs that you weave, thank you.  There is never a dull moment in Charming.  “Dorylus” – SAMCRO encounters an unlikely foe when a piece of their business goes missing.  Written by Regina Corrado and Liz Sagal and directed by Peter Weller.

This week’s episode of Sons of Anarchy was directed by the one and only, Peter Weller.  I am a huge fan of Peter Weller’s work both in front of and behind the camera.  It has always been my belief that brilliant actors make incredible directors because they know exactly how to capture that true, raw emotion.  What a combination, the gifted cast of Sons of Anarchy and Peter Weller.  A cameo by Peter would have been the only thing that could have made this episode more exciting.  Peter first captured my attention as Buckaroo Bonzai, with his ice blue eyes and his sensual voice.  He later went on to become RoboCop and recently he was in Dexter, Fringe and Psych.  His voice is unmistakable and his talent is undeniable.  Okay, I’m done gushing about Peter Weller until next time and I know there will be a next time (insert sequel theme music here).

Clay and Jax have their own mindsets on exactly how things should go but the phrase, “according to plan,” is one that just doesn’t work in their world.

This week we find out exactly how Happy (David Labrava) likes it.  Probing questions will be asked like, “Who made pancakes?”  We all want to know and you will have to tune in to find out.
Kozik (Kenny Johnson), with his frosted locks, can never turn down a challenge and that can be a good or bad quality depending on the situation.

The person that suffers the most in this episode is Chibs (Tommy Flanagan).  It really brings me to question my theory that everything sounds sexier with an accent.  Details Chibs, details.  Luckily, his pal Juice (Theo Rossi) remains by his side.

Potter (Ray McKinnon) and Roosevelt (Rockmond Dunbar) meet up to discuss a different approach.  Their affirmative outlook on how this plan is going to unfold is scary.  Speaking of scary, how scary was Roosevelt with that axe last week?  Rockmond has really been a delightful addition to the cast this season.  I can’t wait to see how his character progresses.  Three episodes in and he is already dominating as a character and an actor.

Gemma (Katey Sagal) is still turning over rocks and this time it ends with her giving a special salute to her dear old friend, Unser (Dayton Callie).

Clay actually does something really humane in this episode.  I am still itchy just from watching the scene, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.  You will know when the time comes.

An artist that will never be forgotten gets a special mention and it will make everyone smile.
The four words that you never want to hear are uttered by a very special someone, “License and registration, please.”

Tig (Kim Coates) tells an embracing story which reminds me that we need more Tig moments this season.  There is something so wrong but so right about Tig.  I think it’s his crazy eyes, they win me over every time.  I have even forgiven Kim for Resident Evil: Afterlife.  No wait, no one should be forgiven for that turkey of a film.  I think I just insulted turkeys but I am willing accept that.

The commercials show a physical moment between Clay and Gemma and it’s no surprise as to what led up to that.  Friction has once again been introduced between the couple.  Life in Charming is anything but cut and dry.  The inner workings of a motorcycle club can rip a family to shreds.

A decision that will forever change the club is brought to the table.  Who do you think is going to vote yea and nay?

Every week we go deeper into Charming and the lives of the people that reside there and we uncover precious pieces of a puzzle that will forever be missing a few pieces, so even when you think you have it figured out, your picture will never be complete.  That is what Sons of Anarchy has that so many other shows are lacking, intensity, intrigue and the audacity to explore that witch has been overlooked by so many others.  Don’t miss a single episode of Sons of Anarchy, Tuesday nights only on FX.
