“Hands” Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Episode 10 Advance Review, Airing 11/8/2011

Tonight’s episode of Sons of Anarchy can be summed up in one very loud word, WOW!  Just when you thought this season couldn’t get any more intense, in walks episode number ten and all hell literally breaks loose.  Well done is all I have to say to everyone involved in this show because Sons of Anarchy is the reason why television was invented.   In tonight’s 10th episode, “Hands,” Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and Tara (Maggie Siff) get a glimpse of life without SAMCRO but discover that their reality is hard to escape. Written by Chris Collins, David Labrava and Kurt Sutter; directed by Peter Weller.

Peter Weller directed tonight’s episode and the character most likely to make you say uncle, Happy (David Labrava) co-wrote it with Kurt Sutter and Chris Collins.  With a genius team like that you know this is the best episode of the season so far.  Just in case you didn’t read the press release above, we are getting an extra episode this season, so I know your day just got a little brighter.

“Hands” is all about the ladies because if Maggie Siff and Katey Sagal do not win awards for their performances in this episode alone then it will be proven that there is no justice in the entertainment world and all of the people responsible for voting must be forced to spend a few minutes alone with Happy until they fully understand what they are turning their backs on.

I’m sure you were all hoping that Luis (Benito Martinez) gave Clay (Ron Perlman) the wrong phone, perhaps one that could only allow Clay to put in a vote for a contestant on some random reality show but no, Clay got what he wanted.  Oh Clay, you stupid, stupid old man, just wait until your “old lady” finds out what you have done.  Clay never gives Gemma enough credit and he treats her like a second class citizen but she is the one that is generally holding all of the cards.  Without Gemma Clay would fall apart, so he had better show her some respect before it is too late.

Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and Tara make the best out of a difficult situation and use Tara’s business trip to take a mini family vacation but if you caught a preview of this week’s episode you know it doesn’t end very nicely.  One thing about this episode that is going to make all of the guys watching it with their significant others really happy is the revelation that Charlie isn’t perfect.  His rendition of a classic song will bring joy to all.

Clay has a conversation with Romeo (Danny Trejo) and Clay says at least one sweet thing, so he is compassionate.  I knew Clay wasn’t completely made of stone and that will come in handy when the stoning begins. Perhaps an additional episode of the show was added just so Clay could be killed off various ways so everyone would be satisfied.

Eli Roosevelt (Rockmond Dunbar) is not digging being Lincoln Potter’s (Ray McKinnon) “boy.”  Eli just wants to do what’s right and ended up wrapped in something that was much more than what he bargained for.  The one thing that you have to admire about Eli is that he is strong enough to admit that.  The only thing I respect about Linc is his taste in cartoons.

Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) is worried because he hasn’t heard from Juice (Theo Rossi).  The way Chibs says “piss test” will put a smile on your face.  I could listen to his Scottish accent all day.  When Juice shows up, it’s Tig (Kim Coates) that gets possessive of him when Roosevelt comes into the picture.

Jax has a long overdue conversation with Opie (Ryan Hurst) and offers him some advice.

Gemma and Wayne (Dayton Callie) revisit their past and Katey proves why she should be celebrated as an actor.

What a brilliant episode and you are going to be watching it through your fingers because this is a hard one and it is going to sting.  It still amazes me how incredible this show is and the fans of the show are so supportive of Kurt Sutter and his unique vision that is brought to life every week by the most incredible cast in the history of television.   Don’t miss tonight’s episode of Sons of Anarchy.
