“Call of Duty” Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Episode 11 Advance Review, Airing 11/15/2011

Sons of Anarchy treats us to an extended episode tonight and trust me you are not going to want to miss this one.  I do find myself saying that every week but this is one of those rare shows that isn’t a take it or leave it kind of show.  The true fans celebrate every episode and enjoy their weekly escape to a little town called Charming.  Just when you thought all the bears were being poked enough, a new person comes along with an even bigger stick.  If you caught one of the previews for tonight’s episode, you know that Wendy Teller (Drea de Matteo) is back.  What do you think she wants?  “Call of Duty” – SAMCRO faces a powerful adversary that threatens their business with the Cartel.  Written by Liz Sagal and Gladys Rodriguez; directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton.

Jax’s (Charlie Hunnam) whole world is crashing down and yet he still tries to reassure his love, Tara (Maggie Siff) that it will be okay and that they should “stick to the plan.”  If you ever wondered what Jax does to unwind just take a look at his writing utensil and you may have your answer. Mini golf anyone?

Wayne Unser (Dayton Callie) is just such a beautiful character and he is always torn between what is right and what is right now.  He cares so deeply for Gemma (Katey Sagal) and what Clay (Ron Perlman) has done to her hurts him the most.

Tig (Kim Coates) is perhaps the only friend and supporter that Clay has left and when Tig reaches out he doesn’t get the response that he was hoping for.  You would figure that Clay would appreciate him but apparently Clay didn’t watch that episode of The Flight of the Conchords.

I love Gemma’s response to Margaret (McNally Sagal) when she asks her what happened.

Juice (Theo Rossi) is a little too excited when he sees the weapons and can only relate to them as “Call of Duty shit.”

I feel bad for Filthy Phil (Christopher Reed) this season because it seems like no matter what he does, he gets dragged into some unpleasant situation. He isn’t even aware on what was just unleashed.

Lincoln Potter (Ray McKinnon) pays another visit to Otto (Kurt Sutter) and I think it is funny that Lincoln is still surprised by Otto’s intelligence.

One thing that really sets Sons of Anarchy apart from other shows is that the action sequences are equivalent to, if not better than, some big screen features.  The explosions are meticulously carried out and this episode really demonstrates that beautifully.

The club has questions for Georgie Caruso (Tom Arnold) and that involves a trip to porntopia which is really good for us because Tig provides some much needed but terrifying comic relief.  I certainly hope Tig’s Secret Santa was paying attention.  Another surprise is that the word “tasteful” is even in Tig’s vocabulary.  You’ll get a great laugh tonight courtesy of Tig and we need to thank him for that.

Chucky (Michael Marisi Ornstein) does so much for the club and tonight we learn that he is much more than just a man, he’s a _____.  You can fill in the blank after the episode.  I always have to declare my love for Chucky because he is my favorite and he needs to be in the show more.

On a scale of one to ten, how excited do you think Gemma is that Wendy is back?  Wendy may be crazier than we once thought for returning because if you remember, she didn’t have any fans in Charming.  That “junky whore” gave Jax a beautiful baby boy and that was all.

Juice has a chat with Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) that could have been taken “Outside.”

Wasn’t I right about last week’s episode belonging to the ladies?  Maggie and Katey were stupendous.  I also have to give Ron Perlman props because he does such an incredible job making us hate Clay.  You tend to forget that there is even a human in there, so well done Ron.  This week I am giving extra props to Ryan Hurst.  Opie (Ryan Hurst) has a heartbreaking conversation with Lyla (Winter Ave Zoli) and that leads him to discover who he really is which only escalates later situations.

Don’t miss tonight’s 90 minute episode of Sons of Anarchy.
