BLESSTHEFALL INTERVIEWED AT TASTE OF CHAOS ON 3/21/2008
Photos and interview by Lena Lamoray
Interview with mainly JARED WARTH and ERIC LAMBERT
I sat down with BLESSTHEFALL
in their dressing room before the show and asked them some questions. We had an exciting conversation
about their hometown, brick breaker, farting and so much more. You
know an interview is going to go well when the band is willing
to discuss bodily functions. They were very sweet and if
you have not seen them live then do it. They put their all
in their performance and really stole the crowd. Forget about
L.L. Cool J., the ladies love these guys! The screams from
the girls behind me were almost as loud as the music. Pick
up a copy of their latest cd, HIS LAST WALK.
Lena: What city has
been the best so far on the TASTE OF CHAOS tour?
BTF: I’m going to say Detroit, that’s definitely
the most fun show we’ve played so far, that and Milwaukee. Milwaukee
was pretty cool and the first Jersey show we played, what was that,
it wasn’t Asbury? I liked Asbury. Pretty much
all of the shows. Oh yeah, Hampton that was pretty good.
Lena: So, just everything
has been good.
BTF: Oh yeah, pretty much the whole tour has been great
overall. It’s pretty awesome! It’s been
a lot of fun.
Lena: Who has the strangest
hobby and or hidden talent?
BTF: Strangest hobby? Matt likes to fart a lot. He
enjoys it and does it so much and giggles so much. Other
than that I don’t know, we are pretty normal and just get
on our laptops and listen to itunes and download music illegally,
ha, ha. It’s great and ironic. I can’t
really think of anything weird that we do.
Lena: You guys don’t
knit sweaters or anything like that?
BTF: Not really! I like playing brick breaker on my
phone. Yes, that’s what I do. I think anyone
that owns a Blackberry that’s all they do is play brick breaker.
Lena: Yeah, same here. We
are going to wear out the little trackball.
BTF: (Jared to his band mate) Yeah, see you don’t
know because you don’t have a Blackberry. You have
to get with the ages.
Lena: When you write
a song what generally comes first the music or the lyrics.
BTF: Definitely, the music. Usually, the process goes
this way, the guitar players just basically write all their parts
and then we bring in the drums and we get all the drum parts done
and then we bring in bass and then we get the vocals and lyrics
done last. We make melodies sound better with maybe a double
chorus or something. I guess that covers it.
Lena: How is the music
scene in Arizona?
BTF: It’s awesome; a lot of kids come out just to
have a good time. It’s where we grew up so it definitely
helped us get to where we are. We drew a big fan base and
that helped us get noticed by a label and management. Those
kids are the reason we are where we are today. Our fans are
just incredible.
Lena: Are there a lot
of clubs to play at?
BTF: Yeah, some are shutting down but they are starting
to open up a couple of new ones. There is one that we play
all the time called the Clubhouse. It’s right downtown
and that’s the heart and soul of where we play basically.
Lena: Describe your
sound.
BTF: I’m trying the think. What do you think
Eric? A lovechild between R. KELLY and BON JOVI. I’m
going to say JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE with a bit of AS I LAY DYING and
little hints of T-PAIN. Yeah, I don’t know actually
we have a lot of, even though people can’t hear it at times,
really heavy rap influence. We love rap mostly. In
some songs you can even bob your head. I think overall it’s
a hardcore metal, sceamo band, to be bold.
Lena: What is with the
moose?
BTF: The moose?
Lena: Yeah, the moose?
BTF: We had a band back in the day and our old singer was
named Moose. I found this moose head in my garage and I put
it on my drum set. Ever since then I’ve always had
it when we went out to play. Even though he is out of the
band the moose is still with us. He has his own myspace.
Lena: Yeah, I saw that
and I was wondering what it was all about.
Lena: What has been
your favorite band to tour with so far?
BTF: BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE. They are my favorite
band ever so I’m super stoked to be on this tour. As
for music, I loved playing Warped Tour mostly because of AS I LAY
DYING. I watched them almost every single day. As
for people, it’s definitely SILVERSTEIN. We
just got so close with those guys. Those guys are the nicest
guys in the world. Yeah, we love those dudes a lot and I
can’t wait to tour with them again.
Lena: What is going
to be your next single and video?
BTF: The next single, well, we are writing a new cd right
now so we haven’t really chosen one yet but we have a video
coming out for the song, RISE UP. That should be out in a
couple of weeks. Yeah, that is probably going to be our next
single. We don’t really even play that song, either. That’s
kind of the most pop song we have and I don’t want to say
radio friendly because it is still not but it’s the catchier
song. We did a video with Travis Copash and it should be
out in hopefully two weeks. I’m excited for it.
Lena: Do you guys get
a lot of radio play especially in Arizona?
BTF: I know we have been on the radio, not like mainstream
more like satellite radio. I know we’ve been on that. We
used to be played at a lot of German dance clubs all the time. We
used to get messages about that all the time like, oh, I heard
your song at this German dance club. I’m like, cool! So
we get a little bit but not too much.
Lena: So what do you
do on your day off?
BTF: Rest or drive it depends on if it’s a long drive
or not but we usually just go and get a hotel and just relax and
hang out. We watch some TV and catch up on ROCK OF LOVE or
something on our laptops. We are fans of all the VH1 shows. We
love them! We get to hang out and be normal for a day.
Lena: What is your next
tour going to be and who are you touring with?
BTF: We are going to do a short little run with a band called,
SCARLET DRIVE and THE BLACKOUT. That’s a short five
day thing after TASTE OF CHAOS. We are playing BAMBOOZLE
and then we come home and write our cd for a very long time and
will be recording it hopefully in the summer. We don’t
have any tour set in stone after that we have some talk but nothing
set.
Lena: You are not doing
WARPED TOUR?
BTF: No, we will be recording our cd in July that’s
why we are not doing WAPRED this year.
Lena: It must be so
hard doing the Warped Tour outside in the heat all the time?
BTF: Yeah, we did it in a van last year and we did the whole
thing. It was so brutal but it was seriously the best thing
that we have ever done. It was so much fun.
Lena: Did you get a
lot of fans from that?
BTF: Yeah, it was like camp. It’s definitely
the best tour that we have ever done career wise. It was
just fun and everyone hung out everyday. It was just rad!
Crimson: What are you
favorite rappers?
BTF: My favorite is T-PAIN but I also like EMINEM. EMINEM
is just a lyrical genius. I like BUSTA RHYMES. Eric
is more of the techno guy. He likes ENYA.
Lena: ENYA? She’s
not really techno.
BTF: Yeah, she’s like psychedelic wave and punk. I
don’t know.
Lena: Do you guys have
any pets?
BTF: Yeah, I think we
all have manly dogs.
Lena: Big dogs or those
really little ones?
BTF: Ha, ha. I actually have cats and a goldfish that
I won at a fair two years ago and it’s just massive right
now. It actually ate the other fish that were in the tank
and it just keeps getting bigger. Band member’s dogs
consist of a Wiener dog, a Shiba Inu, a Westy, and a Pomeranian,
Lena: So, no one has
a Great Dane?
BTF: I used to have a Black Lab but died. I love big
dogs. It seems that people in bands never get big dogs. Yeah,
when we toured with FROM FIRST TO LAST they had these little dogs
running around their bus. Well, I guess it’s practical
if you are going to bring them on tour with you.
Lena: I guess we are all set! I’ll
let you guys get back to work and you can play brick breaker.
BTF: Thank you very much
for taking the time to do this interview.
