D’ESPAIRSRAY interviewed
on 3/21/2008 at TASTE OF CHAOS
Interview questions by Crimson Al-Khemia
Forward and photography by Lena Lamoray
D’ESPAIRSRAY was formed in 1999 and still has its original
line-up. How often do you hear of that? Most bands
are lucky to be able to stand each other for a year so they must
really have something special. They have hit the US before
touring with TRASHLIGHT VISION, SUICIDE CITY and so many others. I
have heard nothing but praise about how great and how nice these
guys are and I got to prove that firsthand. Crimson
wrote and handled the interview but I was there to witness just
how spectacular the Japanese band known as D’ESPAIRSRAY is. They
deserve your support!
Crimson: How have you enjoyed the Taste of Chaos Tour thus far?
D’espairsray: It’s
been really enjoyable. A packed schedule, but really fun and
all the other bands, staff and the fans have been really enjoyable.
Crimson: What do you find is the biggest difference between Japanese
and American bands?
D’espairsray: They are rather similar.
Crimson: Do you find that the fans in both countries are similar?
D’espairsray: The Japanese fans are reserved. It’s
almost like their bodies’ hurt. They don’t really move
that much; where as American fans are much more free and much more
enthusiastic. We think it’s fantastic, the expression they
give off.
Lena: Do you have “pitting” in
Japan?
D’espairsray: We usually
attract that at our shows in Japan.
Crimson: Which artists do you draw your inspirations from?
D’espairsray: We’re inspired by various US bands
like Korn and Linkin Park and Japanese bands.
Crimson: When working on a new album, do you write the lyrics
or the music first?
D’espairsray: First it
starts off with the songs or a basic pattern with the guitar
then it passes down to percussion, and the words are last.
Crimson: With the last album Mirror, what was the theme
behind it?
D’espairsray: The real
meaning was looking into the mirror and seeing something and
seeing how it can take you to the next level. Kind of looking
towards what we are going to become.
Crimson: Do you see for your band?
D’espairsray: We want
to continue to tour and find our new selves.
Crimson: Do you have any favorite brands of instruments?
D’espairsray: Anything that puts out a good sound.
