PSYCH
AUGUST 3RD 2009
REVIEW & INTERVIEW by LENA LAMORAY
PSYCH’s season premiere starts off with a bang in Canada and features some of the most impressive skiing ever featured on film. GUS & SHAWN are up to their usual “psychic” crime solving shenanigans. The episode features a duel of wits, plenty of lists and all the “cheek-spreading” fun that you have grown to expect from the best series on television. Oh, and LASSISTER really loves his gun. Guest starring: CARY ELWES (THE PRINCESS BRIDE & SAW). Do NOT miss this episode on FRIDAY AUGUST 7th at 10pm!!!
When I asked JAMES RODAY and DULE HILL what it was like working with TIM CURRY and the rest of the guest stars (GINA GERSHON, CRISTIAN DE LA FUENTE) on my favorite episode of PSYCH, AMERICAN DUOShere is what they had to say:
DULE HILL: Oh, wow, it was great. First of all, just the fact that Roday and Tim Curry went into a little back and forth saying, “No.” You couldn’t really beat that. You’re working with a comic genius, a great actor, along with Gina Gershon too, it was great. And then having John Landis direct, as I said before, for myself it was one of the all time great moments for me on Psych.
JAMES RODAY: It was a blast of an episode and it was cast perfectly. It was just one of those things where all the pieces came together and you just sort of sat back and pinched yourself a little bit, because you’re like I can’t believe this is A, happening, and B, like episode one of season two. So the planets definitely aligned on that one.
Some other highlights taken from the conference call:
When asked about how they keep the show fresh they responded:
James: From everyone involved in the show like the actors, writers and producers they are hyper aware of keeping the show fresh and unpredictable. We don’t ever want to be considered one of the shows that dropped off after season blank and then was just in autopilot after then.
When asked about what may or may not be coming up in upcoming episodes:
James: Well, there may or may not be a continuation on what capped off our season last year, AN EVENING WITH MR. YANG. There may be our biggest guest star and we may be getting another look at what Gus’s hair looked like in the 90’s.
When asked which one of them is most like their character:
James: I think that we are both pretty different. I think that is what is so much fun about our show is that we get to play characters that are different from our real life personas.
Dule: As in useless information, I would say Roday is more like Gus in that area, especially with film and 80’s trivia. He and Steve Franks can lift songs on an album.
James: I have the trunk of useless knowledge.
