U.K. juggernauts ENTER SHIKARI, known for an eclectic sound that audaciously melds hardcore punk with pulse-pumping drum’n’bass and dark, gut-churning dubstep, are set to join A Day To Remember, August Burns Red and Silverstein on the  North American TOURSICK tour starting March 30^th in Ft Lauderdale, FL. A number of dates are already sold out. The band will then join the Vans Warped Tour from June 24-July 18^th. 

 The band’s latest release, Common Dreads (which debuted at #7 in the UK) is the follow-up to the gold-certified debut Take To The Skies–which also debuted in the UK top 10, earning the band headlining gigs and regular spots on the major worldwide festival circuit. The band’s most recent U.K. headline tour culminated with a triumphant show in front of over 5000 fans at the Hammersmith Apollo. 

Common Dreads is available digitally in the United States via the band’s own imprint Ambush Reality in partnership with DGC/Interscope Records.  For the latest album, the group headed to the isolated Isle Of Wight and holed-up at Arreton Manor studio for three months with veteran producer Andy Gray (U2, Tori Amos, Korn, Gary Numan). Common Dreads is a 15-song soundtrack for an entire generation on a mission to define the era in which it was born: one of recession, paranoia, state control and the fallout of decades of accelerated capitalism; and on the other side, an era of hope, creativity, humanity, hedonism, irreverence and fun. “Politics are unavoidable,” explains lead vocalist ROU REYNOLDS. “We just can’t write sappy music. Our first album was cryptic and metaphor-heavy, this one is more direct.  FOX TOPS THE WEEK WITH IDOL’S TOP 12

 Three defining nights of AMERICAN IDOL, along with strong performances by HOUSE and HUMAN TARGET, led FOX to win the week with a 3.4/10 rating among Adults 18-49, outperforming the next highest-rated competitor by +21%.  FOX continues to hold its lead as the No. 1 network of the season with an advantage of +12% over the next highest-rated network. 

 Monday night kicked off with an original episode of HOUSE, which posted a 4.8/13 and dominated its hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34/25-54, Teens and all key demos. HOUSE was the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-34 and outperformed its prior season average by +12% among Adults 18-49 and +11% in Total Viewers.

 On Tuesday night, the AMERICAN IDOL Top 8 Girls performance show, followed by an encore episode of GLEE, propelled FOX to No. 1 for the night among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and virtually all key demos.

• In the 8p hour, AMERICAN IDOL delivered an 8.2/23 among Adults 18-49 and dominated its time period showing an advantage of +116% over the next highest-rated network among Adults 18-49, +173% among Adults 18-34, +271% among Teens and +16% among Total Viewers.
• A special encore episode of GLEE at 9p drew a very healthy 2.9/8 rating among Adults 18-49.

 On Wednesday night, substantial gains by HUMAN TARGET and the Top 8 males performance show of AMERICAN IDOL delivered a win for FOX among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos. FOX beat its closest competitor on Wednesday by +85% among Adults 18-49, +111% among Adults 18-34, +125% among Teens and +37% in Total Viewers.

• At 8p HUMAN TARGET posted a 2.4/7 among Adults 18-49 and showed significant gains versus its most recent telecast on 2/17/10, increasing +14% among Adults 18-49, +23% among Adults 18-34 and +8% in Total Viewers.
• In the 9p hour, AMERICAN IDOL delivered a 7.5/20 among Adults 18-49 and won the hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos. 
• AMERICAN IDOL once again dominated its time period with an advantage of +121% over the next highest-rated network among Adults 18-49, +122% among Adults 18-34, +207% among Teens  and +56% among Total Viewers.

 Thursday night featured the AMERICAN IDOL Top 12 results show and an original episode of KITCHEN NIGHTMARES, giving FOX to a nightly win among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos. 

• At 8p the Top 12 contestants were revealed on a special AMERICAN IDOL which posted 6.2/18 among Adults 18-49 and won the hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos. 
• AMERICAN IDOL showed an advantage of +75% over the next highest-rated network among Adults 18-49, +114% among Adults 18-34, +141% among Teens and +60% among Total Viewers.

Pop sensations Ke$ha and Orianthi will take the stage on this week’s live AMERICAN IDOL results show Wednesday, March 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. Tune in to see Ke$ha sing her smash single “Blah Blah Blah,” Orianthi perform her hit “According to You” and find out who receives enough votes to stay in the competition and who is sent home.

Also this week, on Tuesday, March 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), a new IDOL stage will be revealed and America’s Top 12 – Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown, Lee Dewyze, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Katie Stevens and Tim Urban – will perform songs by The Rolling Stones.

Global pop superstar/singer-songwriter Ke$ha’s debut album, “Animal,” (RCA Records/ Kemosabe Entertainment) entered the Billboard Top 200 at No. 1 and hit No. 1 on the Digital Albums charts when it was released in January. Rolling Stone said “Animal” was “ridiculously catchy,” and The New York Times called her a “double threat” and “a pioneer.” “Animal” holds the record for the best-ever digital-album sales for a new artist and is the third-biggest digital-album debut by a female, coming in right after Taylor Swift and Britney Spears. It also marked the biggest first week for an artist’s debut album released in January in SoundScan history. Her first single, “TiK ToK,” spent a record-setting nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has sold over 4 million copies in the U.S. and nearly 10 million units worldwide. 

Orianthi is a 25-year-old Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who was featured in Michael Jackson’s comeback concert film, “This Is It.” She has also opened for and recorded with Steve Vai, backed AMERICAN IDOL Carrie Underwood and traded solos with the legendary Carlos Santana. Her debut single, “According To You,” reached No. 6 in Australia and is the No. 2 most-played song on pop radio in the U.S. Her debut album, “Believe,” was released at the end of last year.

RED LIGHT FEVER

Second Album From Foo Fighters’ Drummer and Friends
Out April 20 On Shanabelle/RCA

 A year in the making, the second effort from Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins and his Coattail Riders, Red Light Fever, is now scheduled for an April 20 release on Shanabelle/RCA Records.

Hawkins began demoing tracks on his own when an early 2009 break from the Foo Fighters’ grueling touring schedule finally freed up the time. According to Hawkins, who of course provides drums and vocals on all tracks among other additional instrumentation, “About halfway through, I just said f**k it, I don’t care if the record ends up sounding like me having sex with my record collection. I’m just going to have fun with it.”

The record soon went from a home recording project like the Coattail Riders’ 2006 debut (which was  recorded in Foo Fighters touring percussionist Drew Hester’s living room) to  full on sessions at the Foo Fighters’ state of the art 606 studio complex. Hawkins was joined by returning Coattail Riders Chris Chaney (bass) and Gannin Arnold (guitar) and, for the first time in the studio, touring Coattails guitarist Nate Wood. As the record’s dozen songs were fleshed out, so too was  its stellar supporting cast, which would eventually come to include Elliot Easton of the Cars, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, and last but by no  means least, Hawkins’ bandmate Dave Grohl.

Red Light Fever could be considered a labor of love – if the sheer joy exuded in every note, influence and nuance of every song didn’t make the entire affair seem so effortless. Hawkins’ increasingly accomplished vocals and world renowned drumming skills  recall and pay tribute to Hawkins’ vast spectrum of classic rock heroes – from the vintage 70s glam stomp of “Way Down,” the hard rock rave up “Not Bad  Luck,” a nod to Beatlesque balladry in the form of “Hell To Pay,” and many more. Virtually every track evokes memories of the respective heydays of the Chinn-Chapman hit factory, The Move, Sweet, and even a little 10cc for good measure – all imbued with Hawkins’ unmistakable musical personality.

“I need a fearless love/ I won’t settle for anything less…” – Melissa Etheridge 

        (March 15, 2010 – New York, NY) Melissa Etheridge’s new single, “Fearless Love,” a bold and soaring declaration for living – and loving – to the fullest, has struck a momentous chord as it soars inside the Top 30 this week on the Hot AC chart, and rises to #10 on the Triple A chart.  “Fearless Love” is the title track from Fearless Love, Melissa’s triumphant new album, arriving April 27th on Island Records.

Announce 6 Disc Re-Release Of Their Robust Back Catalog Via Rise Records

Piebald was perhaps one of the most beloved bands in the hardcore/ indie rock crossover genre. Starting out in 1994, the band released a ton of songs throughout their decorated career. Some of these songs are hard to find because most of the releases they appeared on are out of print now. Well, not anymore. Rise Records is pleased to announce the re-release of Piebald’s extensive back catalog.  

Volume I, the first of 3 volumes, will feature 2 discs containing their early years including the album “When Live Hands You Lemons”. Also included are rarities from their split 7” with Cave In and early recordings with now famed producer Brian McTernan. (in stores April 27th)

Volume II will feature 2 discs containing more from their early years including the albums “If It Weren’t For Venetian Blinds It Would be Curtains For Us All” and “Rock Revolution Will Not Be Televised”. Also included are covers of Slayer, Jawbreaker and Weezer. (in stores May 25th)

Volume III will feature 2 discs containg the album “We Are The Only Friends That We Have” as well as other hard to find B sides and rarities including several radio shows. (in stores July 20th)

New Song Posted On Band’s Myspace Page

 The End Records is proud to announce the worldwide release of VOL. II from Daniel Lioneye (on Warner Bros. Records in Finland), the side project from members of HIM, on April 27^th. Consisting of Linde (HIM) on guitars, bass and vocals, Burton (HIM) on keyboards and Bolton (Enochian Crescent) on drums, the band has always embraced breaking boundaries and taking new directions, which is exactly what they did on their sophomore release.

Formed in 2001, Daniel Lioneye’s debut album, The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, was only released in Finland and Germany and was a “tongue in cheek” psychedelic stoner rock album. Earning the group quite a bit of attention, the band played at handful of festivals in Finland which resulted in the title track being the theme song for Bam Margera’s TV show, Viva La Bam. Simply called VOL. II, the band’s North American debut is heavier than the band’s prior release, making it an extreme, yet melodic, rock n’ roll album influenced by black metal.

The first song available for listening on the band’s Myspace page is “I Have Never Wanted To Be Number One”.  Linde had the following to say about the song… “This is no doubt the most accessible song on the album and believe it or not it was written about 5 years ago. It was meant to be an acoustic ballad but this album is not about acoustic ballads so we started to fuck around with it. At first I thought that it sticks out a bit too much from the rest of the stuff and wasn’t sure if I should include it. It sounded too serious and stiff to me. Then Burton came in with his 80’s keys and we added the blast beat part in the end and it changed my mind. Lyrically I guess it is about moving on. But it kind of raises more questions than gives answers and I like to keep it that way.”

 Tonight, AMERICAN IDOL revealed this season’s Top 12 finalists (Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown, Lee Dewyze, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Katie Stevens and Tim Urban) as Katelyn Epperly, Todrick Hall, Alex Lambert and Lilly Scott were eliminated from the competition after receiving the fewest of America’s votes. The AMERICAN IDOL journey has ended for Epperly, 19, from West Des Moines, IA, who sang “I Feel The Earth Move”; Hall, 24, from Arlington, TX, who sang “Somebody To Love”; Lambert, 19, from North Richland Hills, TX, who sang “Trouble”; and Scott, 20, from Denver, CO, who sang “I Fall To Pieces.”

 On Tuesday, March 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), a new IDOL stage will be revealed and America’s Top 12 will take the stage to perform songs by The Rolling Stones.

 And starting tonight, for the first time ever, IDOL show themes will be on iTunes along with playlists of original songs by the original artists from which the contestants may choose. iTunes Store customers will be able to purchase and download songs and playlists for IDOL show themes in advance, giving fans the opportunity to preview and download the same music the contestants will be listening to as they make their all-important song choices.

 Tune in the following night, Wednesday, March 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), to the live results show to find out who receives enough votes to stay in the competition and who is sent home.

 LOS ANGELES, CA – March 10th, 2010 ­– Conservation group SEA SHEPHERD today announced that Zoli Teglas, PENNYWISE front man and Volunteer Music & Outreach Coordinator for SEA SHEPHERD; Kurt Lieber, SEA SHEPHERD board member; and Grace Ko, director of operations for PELICAN RESCUE TEAM, are organizing the Friday, March 12 protest during the lunchtime rush to educate patrons in Santa Monica that endangered whale species are being consumed at THE HUMP restaurant.�
SEA SHEPHERD, the subject of ANIMAL PLANET’S hit show, WHALE WARS, inspired the team behind Oscar-winning documentary film, THE COVE, to orchestrate what the New York Times describes as “a covert operation to ferret out what the authorities say is illegal whale meat at one of this town’s most highly regarded sushi destinations.”

When the story broke Monday  (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/09/us/09sushi.html ) and they heard that  operators of THE HUMP could at most be fined $20,000 and serve one year in prison for violating the MARINE MAMMAL PROTECTION ACT, Teglas, Lieber and Ko sprang into action, obtaining police approval and organizing a peaceful protest during the lunchtime rush on Friday to encourage Los Angeles area sushi lovers to help put an end to restaurants in the US and Japan selling endangered whale species as delicacies.

The peaceful protest will take place on Friday, March 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Hump Restaurant at The Santa Monica Airport – 3221 Donald Douglas Loop South – Santa Monica, CA 90405.

 FOX has renewed FRINGE, the critically acclaimed thrilling drama, for a third season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company.

 “FRINGE tapped into a deep creative mine this year that built momentum throughout the season and helped give us our first real foothold on TV’s most competitive night,” said Reilly. “The entire FRINGE team – from the producers and writers to the cast and crew – has taken smart storytelling and top production quality to a whole new level. The rest of this season is mind-blowing, and we can’t wait to get started on the third installment of this amazing journey.”

 This season, FRINGE improved FOX’s performance in the time period (Thursdays, 9:00-10:00 PM) by 11% among Adults 18-49 and by 33% in Total Viewers. In fact, together with its BONES lead-in, FRINGE helped boost FOX’s Thursday average rating during the fall among Adults 18-49 by 52%.

 “We could not be more excited to continue the wild ride of FRINGE. We are grateful to FOX, and our viewers, for allowing this fun, mind-bending adventure to go on,” said FRINGE co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams.

 Series showrunners and executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H.  Three outstanding nights of AMERICAN IDOL propelled FOX to No. 1 for the week among Adults 18-49. Despite tough competition including ABC’s season finale of The Bachelor and The 82^nd Annual Academy Awards, FOX delivered a 4.1/11 for the week and outperformed its next highest-rated competitor by +8%.  Season to date, FOX continues to rank No. 1 among the broadcast networks this season. 

 On Tuesday, the Top 10 boys competed on AMERICAN IDOL and posted an 8.6/22 among Adults 18-49, leading FOX to a nightly win among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos. 

• FOX showed a significant advantage over the No. 2 network of the night, dominating by +161% among Adults 18-49, +196% among Adults 18-34, +281% among Teens and +48% in Total Viewers. 
• AMERICAN IDOL retained 95% of the audience of the equivalent episode last year (2/25/09) among Adults 18-49, 97% among Adults 18-34 and 96% in Total Viewers.
• Compared to the previous week’s Tuesday performance show, AMERICAN IDOL held 96% of its audience among Adults 18-49, 93% among Adults 18-34 and 97% in Total Viewers.

 On Wednesday, the Top 10 girls competed on AMERICAN IDOL, posting an 8.5/23 among Adults 18-49 and leading FOX to another nightly win among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens and all key demos. 

• FOX held a tremendous advantage over the next highest-rated network of the night, dominating by +215% among Adults 18-49, +300% among Adults 18-34, +342% among Teens  and +129% among Total Viewers.
• In fact, AMERICAN IDOL outperformed the combined 4-net competition for the night by +16% among Adults 18-49, +33% among Adults 18-34 and +83% in Teens.
• AMERICAN IDOL retained 93% of the audience of the comparable performance telecast last year on Wednesday 2/25/09 among Adults 18-49, 99% among Adults 18-34, +96% among Teens and 96% in Total Viewers.

Three local skateboard shops will compile approximately the top 30 qualifiers of all ages in the region who will pay $20 to enter the open competition – there are no age group requirements in this competition. Registration includes one general admission ticket to the event plus competitor wristbands and Retaks Competitor gift bag. Skaters younger than 18 years old will receive one pass for their parent/guardian who will be required to sign a liability waiver on site. Competition is open to all amateur skateboarders. Those who’d like to participate can contact Pharmacy Board Shop, 4845 S. Fort Apache Road in Summerlin (228-4755); Industrial Ride Shop inside the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson (435-0600) or the Area 702 Skatepark, 3040 Simmons St., suite #104, in North Las Vegas (870-7588). Spaces are limited.

 After initial competition, five individual sessions will determine the top five competitors, who will be judged solely on their at least 4-minute individual run. Open jam practice will take place in the morning until the first Retaks Concert Band takes the stage. Then, each of the five competitors will have approximately 20 minutes to practice their individual runs before final competition begins. The contest will be judged by three independent or professional skaters to be announced at a later time.

 Local lifestyle backpack company Retaks – the word “skater” inscribed backwards – created the Expressions Tour three years ago and kicks off the 2010 event at Extreme Thing. Retaks started in 2005 when a father and his two sons scribbled an idea on the back of an airline flight barf bag and has since designed backpacks to suit the lifestyle of the extreme sports enthusiast. The tour presents the best of local skate and BMX riders in amateur competitions. This year the company added a music component to the tour with a five-band concert stage next to the mini ramp.

 Extreme Thing Sports and Music Festival, now in its 15^th year, welcomes The Used, Five Finger Death Punch, Escape the Fate, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Story of the Year and The Bled on the Verizon Wireless main stage with Never Shout Never, The Cab, Hey Monday, Every Avenue, The Summer Set, Call The Cops and The Ready Set taking the newly formed AP (Alternative Press) Stage. This will be the first year Extreme Thing will feature four stages, with the third being the XPOZ Local Band Stage. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 day of the show. A combo package also is available for $35 and includes a ticket, commemorative event T-shirt and artist-signed event poster.

 Only a personal “unopened” bottle of water can be brought into the festival along with still cameras and sunscreen. There will be plenty of ATMs on site this year with an array of food vendors available, from barbecue to Thai, along with beverages. No alcohol will be sold. No animals, coolers, weapons or chairs are permitted. No re-entry will be permitted.

 LOS ANGELES, Mar. 8 – The Melvins release The Bride Screamed Murder on June 1 via Ipecac Recordings with a U.S. tour launching the same day in San Diego and including a stop at the Bonnaroo Festival.   

 The Bride Screamed Murder is the third release featuring Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover and Big Businesses’ Coady Willis and Jared Warren.  While the Melvins recently celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary, the latest incarnation debuted with the highly-praised (A) Senile Animal (2006) and continued with Nude With Boots (2008).

Brooklyn’s Ninjasonik are taking their self-sustained, militant buzz off the streets and translating it onto wax for their long awaited debut album this spring. Beginning as an art concept record and a time capsule of their almost 18 months together, “Art School Girls” features guest appearances from Matt and Kim, Team Robespierre, and Vivian Girls. It’s obviously not the normal collaborative line-up for what many could misconstrue as a hip-hop record, but a “cultural fusion” says emcee Telli. “I don’t think sound has been merged like what we do. I’m a rapper, Jah’s a punk, and Teenwolf’s a musicologist.” Ninjasonik is unleashing this raw and uncut synthesis of styles with their “Art School Girls” full length VIA Green Owl / Chief Records due April 20th, 2010. Green Owl is a label that is ahead of the game in itself by respecting the planet both economically and environmentally through sustainable technology, news, and information. 



At the heart of this all is the live show where Ninjasonik truly demonstrate an aerobic performance that leaves audiences fully engaged. The Brooklyn trio splashed onto the stage and established themselves as next generation of live hip hop by creating a synergy between their rhymes and a newly evolved performance art in the making. Having shared the stage with such disparate artists as Spank Rock, Dan Deacon, Japanther, Afrika Bambataa, The Cool Kids and Murs, Ninjasonik has melded enough sounds to bring in fans across all genres. 



At it’s most fundamental, Telli is right about what separates and unites the members of Ninjasonik. DJ Teenwolf received his own buzz as part of the Sound Advice DJ collective, and as a solo remixer. Jah Jah was a DJ of his own accord, spinning at some of the first Treble & Bass parties in Baltimore, and later rolling deep with famous skaters and graffiti artists like Mark Gonzales and Ben Robey. And since childhood, Telli was banging out rhymes over lunch table beats, before going on to record with Raheim and a few Wu-Tang associates before being burned out by the game (and then re-inspired by his Ninjasonik cohorts).



There is no definition for a record so eclectic yet thematic. “Ha Ha Ha” (featuring Team Robespierre) may have the most traditional hip-hop structure, with punchline-packed verses and an innocuous hook. “Art School Girls” throbs with a powerfully fast bassline and Jah Jah’s charmingly off-key crooning.

 The recently completed ninth annual Take Action Tour just wrapped up with one last triumphant hurrah in Dallas on March 2, 2010. The tour, whose mission is to create a better world, continues to inspire and make change in a proactive manner.

 Framing Hanley, the Nashville, TN rock band that burst onto the alternative rock scene last year behind The Moment - selling over 800,000 tracks, 110,000 albums and playing over 300 shows – is back in a big way for 2010.         Along with Courtney, the new line-up of Hole includes 23-year-old British guitarist Micko Larkin (formerly of London indie rockers Larrikin Love), bassist Shawn Dailey (of Rock Kills Kid), and drummer Stuart Fisher.  (Jack Irons, formerly of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam, played drums on the album.)  Hole recently played a brief series of dates in February at Shepherds Bush Empire in London, then in Milan and Amsterdam.  Hole is scheduled to perform at the SPIN party at the SXSW (South By Southwest) Music Conference in March, with further tour dates TBA.

 Tour With The Morning Benders Starts 3/10 in Philadelphia * Playing SXSW

Weeks after finishing F O R T R E S S, the follow up to their well received debut Tell It To the Volcano, Miniature Tigers will be hitting the road over the next two months supporting The Morning Benders. F O R T R E S S will be the bands second full length for Modern Art Records who recently partnered with Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group. 

 Chris Chu, lead singer of The Morning Benders co-produced the effort over a three week span in January at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock, NY. The upcoming 10 song album will be released this summer with the single “Gold Skull” featuring Neon Indian coming in May. The tour will start in Philadelphia, PA on March 10th, and circle the country including a stop in Austin, TX for a week at SXSW.

 After a hot series of shows at CMJ in 2008 where both Spin and KCRW gave the band top marks, Miniature Tigers rallied through 2009 playing nearly 200 shows with the likes Ben Folds, Bishop Allen, Fun, Ruby Sons and Princeton. The Maine Partners with IC Bus to Help

Highlight Teen Greening Efforts Across America

NEW YORK, NY (February 26, 2010) – The Maine has partnered with IC Bus, the nation’s leading school bus manufacturer, for the second annual America’s Greenest School^SM Contest to help find the greenest school in the country.

The winning school will receive a free concert by The Maine.  In addition to the concert, the winning school will receive a new IC Bus™ hybrid school bus valued at $150,000, a $20,000 green makeover and LEED school audit, and a $3,000 scholarship for the winning entry.

 “We’re extremely happy to be partnering with IC Bus for the 2010 America’s Greenest School contest,” said The Maine vocalist John O’Callaghan. “Being green is important to our band, our fans and the planet, and this contest is a great way to highlight the little things that make a big difference – like riding the bus instead of driving. We’re excited about playing at the winning school and encourage all of our fans to enter, and to go green.” The group helped kick off the 2010 America’s Greenest School contest with a pep rally concert at the school of 2009’s contest winner – Irvington High School in Freemont, CA (picture below).

Riding a school bus is just one great way to help the environment. Here are a few green facts from the American School Bus Council:

·        One school bus has the capacity to take 36 cars off the road, for a total of 17.3 million cars a year.

·        More than 26 million children ride the school bus daily, saving 2.3 billion gallons of fuel each year.

·        If an additional 10 percent of children rode school buses, it could save another 300 million gallons of fuel annually.

·        School bus models made in 2007 or later incorporate newer engine technology and are 60 times cleaner than those built before 1990.

·        The daily fuel cost to transport a child to school is $3.68 for a private vehicle, but only 73 cents if that child rides a school bus.

Here are a few simple tips from The Maine on how they’ve committed to living green:

·         Anything that you leave plugged into an outlet is pulling electricity, even if it’s “sleeping”, so we always make sure to unplug anything that isn’t in use.

·         In the winter months here in AZ, we turn both our heater and A/C off. Not only will it save you money, but it’s perfect outside! Who really uses a heater in Arizona anyway?

·         We buy water in jugs to help cut down on all that wasted plastic from water bottles.

·         We keep all of our showers very short – anything over three minutes is a waste of water!

        (February 24, 2010 – New York, NY) With yesterday’s release of  The Rocket Summer’s second major label album on Island Records, OF MEN AND ANGELS, the album shot to #1 on iTunes overall album chart, moving ahead of The Black Eyed Peas, Sade and Lady Antebellum. 

        OF MEN AND ANGELS is on the way, as The Rocket Summer frontman, songwriter and multi-instrumental Texan Bryce Avary looks ahead to the band’s return to the road, starting March 13^th on a series of shows with Colorado-based One Republic.  (Please see tour dates below.)  TRS is already confirmed for the 16^th annual Vans Warped Tour 2010 this summer, opening in California the last weekend of June, running through August 15^th.

The Rocket Summer will be playing a hometown album release party for OF MEN AND ANGELS next Friday night, February 26^th, at the Granada Theatre in Dallas.  The day before (February 25^th) the Rocket Summer will perform on local FOX-TV morning show, Good Day Dallas.  Then March 4^th , TRS will perform on FOX’s Good Day Austin.  

       On March 20^th, the closing Saturday of this year’s 10-day SXSW (South By Southwest) Music + Film + Interactive Conference in Austin – the Rocket Summer will play an acoustic set as part of the AP (Alternative Press) all-day “100 Bands (You Need To Know)” concert.  TRS will join 18 other bands (“in no particular order,” AP advises) who will play on three stages at Emo’s beginning at noon.  The AP website http://www.alternativepress.com/news/8509.htm is also streaming OF MEN AND ANGELS.

Newest Single “Back Against The Wall” Hits #1

            (February 23, 2010 – New York, NY)  Cosmic forces of destiny unite three mortals in world-shaking times, as Def Jam recording artists – and Wu-Tang Clan brothers-for-life –  Method Man, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon join forces on WU MASSACRE, an historic collaboration that takes Wu science and theology to the next step on hip-hop’s evolutionary grid.  (Tentative tracklist, song titles and guest artists appear below, subject to change.)

            WU MASSACRE, which arrives March 30^th in the physical and digital marketplace, will be preceded by the soulful street single “Our Dreams,” starring the legendary Wu-Tang Clan’s three most dynamic MCs, Meth, Ghost, and Rae and produced by RZA for Wu-Tang Productions. For an added tug on the heart-strings, “Our Dreams” samples Michael Jackson’s mid-’70s hit as a 17-year old, “We’re Almost There.”

           In addition to “Our Dreams,” Meth, Ghost and Rae take the trio spotlight on two more tracks: the thunderous opener “Criminology 2.5” and “Miranda.”  Ghost and Meth take the lead on “It’s That Wu Sh*t.”  On the “Smooth Sailing” Remix, Ghost and Meth are joined by Solomon Childs and Streetlife.  On “Gunshowers,” Meth and Ghost are joined by fellow WTC rapper Inspectah Deck and Sun God.  “Youngstown Heist” features Trife, Sheek and Bully. 

           In addition to RZA, WU MASSACRE features a number of guest producers, starting with Mathematics on “Mef vs. Chef,” “Dangerous,” “Miranda,” and “Made Men.”  Scram Jones produced “Youngstown Heist” and “It’s That Wu Sh*t.”  E Meal produced “Pimpin’ Chipp.”  And Ty Fyffe produced the “Smooth Sailing” Remix.

            The springtime arrival of WU MASSACRE follows a busy year of album releases and performance schedules by all three artists:

            Ghostface Killah returned as The Wizard Of Poetry (released September 2009), his 6^th Def Jam album (and 10^th major label album).  The Wiz focused on duets with an A-list of guests including Raheem DeVaughn (on the first single, “Baby”), Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Fabolous, Lloyd, Vaughn Anthony & Estelle, and others.  Ghost spent July and August with Method Man and Redman, keeping the Wu-Tang Clan spirit alive and well on the month-long, 21-city Foot Print in Hip-Hop Tour. 

            Raekwon aka The Chef gave WU fans something to believe with the long-awaited Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II (also released September 2009), which spun off a pair of all-star singles: “New Wu” featuring Meth and Ghost, produced by RZA; and “House of Flying Daggers” featuring Meth, Ghost, GZA, and Inspectah Deck, produced by J. Dilla.  CLII is the sequel to Rae’s groundbreaking solo debut of 1995, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, one of the very first solo albums released by a W-TC member after the group’s 36 Chambers entry back in ’93.  Rae spent the summer 2009 on the massively successful Rock The Bells Tour alongside GZA, RZA, Nas, Damian Marley, the Roots, Ice Cube, Common, and others.

            Always larger than life, Method Man is still basking in the glow of Blackout! 2 (released May 2009), his critic­ally acclaimed collaboration with Redman. It was the long-awaited sequel (ten years!) to Meth and Red’s RIAA platinum Blackout, a defining hip-hop event of 1999 (with “Tear It Off,” “Y.O.U.,” and “Da Rockwilder”).  Blackout! 2 blasted off with a trifecta of new single releases showing off Meth and Red at their very best: “A-Yo” featuring Saukrates, produced by Pete Rock; “Mrs. International” featuring Erick Sermon, produced by Buckwild; and “City Lights” featuring Bun B, produced by Nasty Kutt.

 A gold medal performance from Tuesday’s AMERICAN IDOL and double-digit growth from Sunday’s animated originals of THE SIMPSONS, THE CLEVELAND SHOW, and AMERICAN DAD contributed to FOX’s weekly rating of 3.2/9 among Adults 18-49.  In addition, Tuesday’s AMERICAN IDOL ranked as the No. 1 program of the week besting all Olympics telecasts among Adults 18-49.  Despite tough competition this season from such major events as the Olympics and the Super Bowl, FOX remains the No. 1 network of the season and leads its closest competitor (CBS) by +12%.

 AMERICAN IDOL dominated the night on Tuesday, achieving an impressive 9.2/23 among Adults 18-49.  FOX won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.

• AMERICAN IDOL significantly outperformed its nearest competitor by advantages of +67% among Adults 18-49, +100% among Adults 18-34, +144% among Teens and +17% in Total Viewers. 
• Despite airing against the Olympics, AMERICAN IDOL retained 99% of its ratings among Adults 18-49 from the same Hollywood Week episode last year on 2/10/09, as well as 99% among Adults 18-34 and 96% in Total Viewers.

 Grammy Award-winning songwriter/musician/producer and humanitarian Wyclef Jean will be honored with the prestigious Vanguard Award at the 41^ST NAACP IMAGE AWARDS, broadcast live from Los Angeles’ historic Shrine Auditorium, Friday, Feb. 26 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.

 The NAACP Vanguard Award is presented to a person whose groundbreaking work increases understanding and awareness of racial and social issues. Previous honorees include Tyler Perry, Russell Simmons, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Stanley Kramer and Steven Spielberg.

 “The NAACP is proud to honor Wyclef Jean with this year’s Vanguard Award for his continued activism and dedication,” said NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “His passion for social justice and helping those in need should be applauded. It was Wyclef who was on a plane shortly after the devastating earthquake hit his homeland of Haiti, and it was his dedication to the people of Haiti that helped spur all of us to donate what we could and keep the people of Haiti in our hearts and prayers.”

 A founding member of the pioneering hip-hop group the Fugees and a prolific solo artist, Wyclef Jean has effortlessly crossed genres, generations and geographic boundaries with his music. Jean’s musical journey began in Haiti where he first sang in his father’s church at age 3. At 10 years old, he moved with his family to the United States, where he formed his first serious musical collaboration, the Tranzlator Crew, with his New Jersey classmates Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel. By 1994, the Tranzlator Crew had become the Fugees, and the group enjoyed its first critical acclaim with its debut album, “Blunted On Reality.”

Jean’s talents as a producer and performer have led to myriad successful projects over the past two decades, including collaborating with Bono on “New Day” and Shakira on the Grammy-nominated international smash hit “Hips Don’t Lie,” as well as writing and producing Carlos Santana’s Grammy Award-winning “Supernatural” and Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love.” Jean is currently working on his seventh solo LP, “Wyclef Jean,” which returns Wyclef to his musical roots and will be released this summer via Carnival House/Columbia Records/Sony Music.

In 2005, Jean founded Yéle Haiti, a grassroots movement inspiring change in Haiti through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment, to provide aid and assistance to his native Haiti. The organization’s community service programs include food distribution and mobilizing emergency relief. The term “yéle” was coined by Wyclef in a song and means “a cry for freedom.” After the devastating earthquake in January, all programs now focus on the relief and reconstruction of the island nation.

FOX is Runner-Up During Super Bowl Week, But Still Claims Top-Rated Week of the 2009-10 Season

The final audition rounds of AMERICAN IDOL, the winter finales of BONES and FRINGE, and strong performances by KITCHEN NIGHTMARES and the NASCAR: BUD SHOOTOUT race led FOX to a weekly rating of 3.2/9 among Adults 18-49. Despite the strong Super Bowl performance on CBS on Sunday, FOX still claims the highest rated week of the season (8.8 rating during the week of 1/18/10, Live + Same Day). This marks the first time since the 2001/2002 broadcast season that the network carrying the football face-off did not also have the top-rated week of the season among Adults 18-49.

Remaining Semifinalists Announced Wednesday, February 17

In an AMERICAN IDOL first, some of the Top 24 semifinalists will be revealed in a special two-hour event airing Tuesday, Feb. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

On Tuesday evening, the remaining contestants will take the stage to perform their final solo number in front of Simon, Ellen, Kara and Randy in hopes of singing their way into the Top 24. Following these performances, the judges will deliberate, and for the first time in IDOL history, will announce some of the Top 24 semifinalists.

Tune in Wednesday, Feb. 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) as the judges reveal the remaining contestants who will round out the Top 24.

James Roday, star of the hit television series “Psych,” and Michael Weston of TV’s “House” will play two friends on a reckless weekend in Gabe McKinley’s new play EXTINCTION, previewing Off-Broadway on Feb 13, 2010 prior to its official press opening February 17 at the Cherry Lane Theatre in Manhattan. Wayne Kasserman directs.

Mr. Roday and Mr. Weston reprise their roles Off-Broadway in EXTINCTION following its acclaimed, sold-out run this past fall in Los Angeles at the Elephant Space theatre in Hollywood in a production praised by Variety as “the creative meat of a truly talented writer…a very dark view of the sexes.” The L.A. Times wrote that the play “enters unexplored, murky corners and is uniquely unsettling.”

With a cast featuring James Roday, Michael Weston, Amanda Detmer and Stefanie E. Frame, EXTINCTION is Mr. McKinley’s play about what transpires between two college buddies whose annual outing of male-bonding and debauchery veers precipitously off course when unmet expectations spiral into a volatile showdown.

EXTINCTION will be presented Off-Broadway by RED DOG SQUADRON in association with the Cherry Lane Theatre. The actor Dule Hill, Mr. Roday’s co-star on “Psych,” is also a producer of the play.

(Feb. 11, 2009 – New York, NY) Three-time Grammy Award-winner Ludacris takes over the #1 spot on Urban Radio for a second consecutive week with “How Low” – now certified RIAA platinum for U.S. sales in excess of one million units, setting the stage for THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES, the 7th studio album from Disturbing Tha Peace CEO and DTP/Def Jam artist Luda, arriving in the physical and digital marketplace on March 9th.
As anticipation builds for THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES, Ludacris moves into his second week as special guest on the Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. Tour. The 10-week, 32-city tour of stadiums and major arenas across North America runs through April 11th in Vancouver. (Please remaining tour dates below.)

THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES is the long-awaited follow-up to Luda’s previous concept album, Theater Of The Mind (November 2008), which spun off a pair of singles that both hit Top 20 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the Top 40 stretch of the Hot 100: “What Them Girls Like” (featuring Chris Brown and Sean Garrett), and “One More Drink” (featuring T-Pain).
It was October of 2008, in the heat of electioneering fever, when Ludacris (Chris Bridges) made hip-hop history as co-star of two major motion pictures that opened within two weeks of each other. Max Payne, based on the popular video game, in which Luda starred as an internal affairs agent alongside Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and Beau Bridges, opened on October 17th; and Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, in which Luda joined Gerard Butler and Thandie Newton for an exciting tale of the Russian mob in London, opened on October 31st.
In between his movie premieres in October, Ludacris performed at the syndicated BET Awards ’08 tv broadcast, hosted by D.L. Hughley. Most recently, Luda co-starred in the Lionsgate film Gamer (September 2009), joining Gerard Butler for another action thriller.
Theater Of The Mind followed-up Luda’s RIAA platinum Release Therapy of 2006, which debuted at #1 – the same week that its first single, the RIAA platinum “Money Maker” (featuring Pharrell Williams) hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts. On March 30th, Long Island, NY’s Envy On The Coast will release its second full-length, LowCountry. To celebrate the band has added two new songs, “Numb” and “Devil’s Tongue”, to its MySpace page (www.myspace.com/evnyonthecoast) and has launched various preorder packages in the Photo Finish Records web store.

About Envy On The Coast: In 2006, music fans were introduced to Envy On The Coast, the upstart Long Island quintet with the swiss-army rock aesthetics, boundless ambitions, and hearts big enough to fit each of their growing swell of fans.
After issuing a self-titled debut EP and the Lucy Gray full-length to widespread acclaim, the band, consisting of vocalist Ryan Hunter, guitarists Brian Byrne and Sal Bossio, and bassist Jeremy Velardi, set out on national tours with arena-filling artists like 30 Seconds To Mars and Angels & Airwaves and were named one of Alternative Press’ “Most Anticipated” albums of 2009. Following subsequent tours alongside peers as disparate as Circa Survive and Taking Back Sunday, Envy On The Coast have cut their teeth in front of thousands of fans, earning their own impassioned following in the process.
