Drink Up Buttercup album release March 23 on Yep Roc Records

DRINK UP BUTTERCUP

Born and Thrown on a Hook

3.23.10

“Drink Up Buttercup, a quartet from Philadelphia that lunges joyously into every jangly

chord and full-throated chorus… brought a smile to every face I could see, and the

bashing on that garbage can lid couldn’t obscure some genuinely pretty and

expressive harmonies.”  –The New York Times

Philadelphia pop quartet Drink Up Buttercup will release their first full-length album,

Born and Thrown on a Hook, on March 23rd through Yep Roc Records.

Drink Up Buttercup earned the attention of fans with the release of their debut 7” Sosey & Dosey

on Kanine Records, which was described as “Beatle-esque but in a kitchen sink kind of way,”

(Brooklyn Vegan) and“60’s psychedelic carnival” (Stereogum). The band – comprised of Jim Harvey

(vocals, guitar), Ben Money (bass, organ), Mike Cammarata (drums) and Farzad Houshiarnejad

(keyboards) – furthered their notoriety through their bombastic live shows with The New York Times

going so far to say that the band “mesmerizes and clobbers live.”

Drink Up Buttercup’s first full album navigates a surrealistic geography somewhere between the grittiness

of a Tom Waits’ song and the fairy tales of Han Christian Anderson. Produced by Philadelphia’s own

Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man) and mixed by Rusty Santos (Animal Collective, Owen Pallett,

Panda Bear), Born and Thrown on a Hook  demonstrates a preoccupation with flawed protagonists,

drunks and star-crossed lovers.

“We knew we were making something great and we all fought about what added to the greatness

and what detracted,” Moriarty said. “We tried every way possible to make recordings: live,

one at a time, analog tape, computer… in the end all of them worked and none was the solution.”

“This is an album I’m glad to have been a part of,” Moriarty continued. “It was a powerful

experience with all the attractive and repellent parts of being alive rolled up in it.”

In anticipation of Born and Thrown on a Hook, Drink Up Buttercup is releasing a live video document

of every song on the upcoming album each week via www.drinkupbuttercup.com, culminating

on March 23rd. Each video is stripped of studio trickery & audio comfort zones, embracing

the strange surroundings they find themselves in – basements filled with balloons, children’s

playgrounds and old folks homes.

Jennifer Knapp new album Letting Go and tour with Derek Webb

Grammy nominated, Dove Award winning Jennifer Knapp returns from a seven year hiatus with a new album, Letting Go (Graylin/RED/Thirty Tigers) on May 11th 2010.   This spring she will preview her new music on a co-headline tour with Derek Webb kicking off on March 5th in New York City (tour dates below) and she will also join this summer’s Lilith Fair tour.  Fans can pre-order the album on tour and receive an exclusive CD of acoustic demos from the record.  Recorded in Nashville, Letting Go is produced by Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, Martha Wainwright, Amy Grant) and features ten intimate folk, country tinged rock songs showcasing her astonishing straightforwardness and spirituality.   Click HERE to listen to new music.

“It is a humbling honor to have such devoted fans that have waited for my return to writing and performing,” explains Jennifer Knapp. “For me, it is the refuge of quiet places that has always birthed the depths of sincerity that music unveils. In the end, no song carries it’s full voice until it has been shared. It is truly overwhelming to have the opportunity to reemerge with a fresh vision and passion knowing that lovers of music are there to share the joy.”

John Huie of CAA adds, “She’s like a fine cabernet.  She only gets better with age.  The sabbatical did her good.”

Jennifer Knapp

Knapp’s impressive history includes selling over one million albums with her previous releases Kansas (debut 1998), Lay It Down (2000), and The Way I Am (2001).    The Kansas-born musician toured the globe with artists such as Jars of Clay and was featured on 1999′s Lilith Fair tour.  Her music often described as intimate folk, country tinged rock songs showcases her astonishing straightforwardness and spirituality.   Knapp received critical acclaim with The Los Angeles Times calling her “a rising star” and People Magazine describing her as “an uncommonly literate songwriter.” Jennifer went on to win her first Dove Award in 1999 for Best New Artist, scored a Grammy nod in 2002 and another Dove nomination in 2003.  With a considerable fan base, critical and commercial successes, Knapp walked away from it all at the height of her career.  After seven years of soul searching and time spent in Australia, Knapp comes full circle in 2010 with a new album, new tour and a renewed love of music.  She willplay on the re-vamped Lilith Fair tour, the first one in 10 years. Since Jennifer played on the last one in ’99, being asked to play the re-launch is very special, a reminder of why Jennifer came back to her musical roots.

Derek Webb

Singer-songwriter Derek Webb continues to tour in support of his latest album, Stockholm Syndrome (INO/Columbia Records). The most provocative and stirring release of his storied career, Stockholm Syndrome delivers everything listeners have come to expect from Derek Webb: killer pop hooks and lyrics as thought provoking as they are emotionally revealing. Webb co-produced Stockholm Syndrome with former Caedmon’s Call bandmate Josh Moore (Bun-B, Slim Thug), a producer who in recent years has lent his ear to hip-hop recording projects. Derek Webb is an innovator in the evolving music landscape from his social network and Twitter followers to his highly publicized 2006 free album downloads. www.derekwebb.com

The Rocket Summer in Cosmogirl

CHECK OUT THE ROCKET SUMMER FEATURED ON THE HOMEPAGE OF COSMOGIRL!
First, Taylor Lautner and Ashley Greene, then the Neon Trees, and now, The Rocket Summer‘s Bryce Avary is spilling on his prom memories! Check out his story and pick up the band’s  album, which hits stores February 23!
“I had a fairly dramatic high school experience full of good and bad.  I put out my first Rocket Summer EP when I was 16, and it was something straight out of a movie. I sent it to the big local rock radio station, and shockingly enough they started playing it. The quiet indie kid was now all of a sudden someone who people knew.  As you could imagine, that came with a lot of good and bad things respectively.  I remained the same fairly quiet kid, but people started learning about me.  It was weird.  The punks didn’t like me because I wasn’t punk enough, I was “straight edge” so the kids that did drugs loathed me, the jocks didn’t like me because my girlfriend used to date one, and then there was everyone else who generally seemed to think I was an alright dude.  I guess in a way it set me up for what became my life.”
“Before all of that though I started dating the girl of my dreams.  She was the most beautiful girl in school who loved Jimmy Eat World and MxPx when no one knew who they were. She was voted “Most Sincere” and she was a cheerleader, yes a cheerleader. But she was the cheerleader who sometimes wore black framed “nerd rock” glasses in her cheerleader uniform at pep rallies. She was that girl, the one that literally every guy had a crush on – the jocks, the punks, the anime kids, everybody.  And somehow I landed her, and I did that before any silly “high school fame” or whatever you want to call it.  She was the Holy Grail of popularity and yet somehow she saw through all of that and liked something about me.   Her ex was the epitome of crazy /abusive/ throw his fist through a locker during passing periods while yelling at his girlfriend jock guy and I hated the way he treated her.  So naturally, when they broke up, I flew in like a wannabe hero to try and rescue her.  As a result, he pretty much made it clear to a lot of people he wanted me dead and I had the pleasure of getting to deal with that concern every day. After all, he did bite a chunk out of a dude’s leg in football practice from the anger of his break up with the girl.  I was prepared for it though, I knew in my 16-year-old brain that this girl would be my wife one day and I would fight to the death for her if that’s what had to happen.  Luckily it never came to that (whew!).”
“When prom rolled around there were ballots where students could cast their vote for superlatives. I was a bit shocked when they called my name for “Most Talented” as it was still weird to me that anyone even knew who I was, and that award was quite a compliment.  While I was walking up to get my “award” they announced the next category for the award of “Most Likely to Go to Jail” – the only award of that nature.  And who got it? You guessed it, crazy “I want to kill Bryce” guy.  Yep.  Both of us standing there together, being recognized for two totally opposite things in front of the whole senior class.  Mine was a moment of affirmation and glory and his was a moment of sheer humiliation.  I can’t lie, I loved that deep down after all of the fear that the dude injected into my teenage life, he was getting some sort of payback.  Looking back now on that scenario, I feel bad for the guy. People can change for the better, which I think he probably has, just like I know I have. Prom can really suck for some people and rule for others.  Regardless, I say go. You never know, you might find yourself writing a crazy story for CosmoGirl ten years from now about how you married the Prom Queen.  Oh, did I mention she was the Prom Queen?  And did I mention I married her?  BOOM!”

Foxy Shazam New Music News and Super Bowl

FOXY SHAZAM have released the first song off their upcoming Warner Bros. debut album. “Unstoppable” is available now at iTunes- http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/unstoppable-single/id351170337. The track will also be featured during this Sunday’s Super Bowl game. Foxy Shazam’s new album will be released this spring.

 www.Myspace.com/foxyshazam
www.Facebook.com/foxyshazam

 About Foxy Shazam:

Hello, my name is Eric Nally and I am the singer and founding member of this rabble-rousing pack of fucks they call Foxy Shazam.  Our other five members are (in alphabetical order): Daisy (bass) Aaron McVeigh (drums), Alex Nauth (horns) Loren Turner (guitar) and Sky White (piano). I love them but before I get into their story, I would like to spend a little time on myself: I am twenty-four years old, the father of two boys, Julian Michael and Francis Jordan, as well as a loving husband to Karen Nally. This creates an interesting contrast to my career as a professional musician.

I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was one of two white boys in an all-black high school. The band name Foxy Shazam came from a saying in my school meaning, “cool shoes.”  If you had cool shoes kids would say those are “foxy shazam.” Because of this we have a lot of soul, and try to let it bleed through our music as much as possible.  Mom and Dad were pretty poor as I was growing up but always supported my musical interests nonetheless. In the early years they bought my band cheap guitars and amps and drove us to shows in the family Thunderbird.  I owe them big time and will someday repay them.

Now that you know a little about my history, I would like to talk about my bandmates. Alex, our trumpet player is my right hand man and as a matter of fact he is transcribing this for me right now.   Alex is classically trained, has a likable personality and is easy to get along with.  We picked him up on the corner of Hollywood and Las Palmas a couple of years into the band’s existence and I feel like his horn playing has added to the uniqueness of our sound.  I meet a lot of people that think horns are stupid, but he’s going to change that.

Loren, our guitar player is a weird guy to get the hang of and he’s very quiet. Everyone that meets him gets the impression that he’s mad at them but that’s not the case, it’s just the way his face looks.  He loves Dimebag Darrell and I love the influence that gives him in his guitar playing.

Daisy, our bass player has been in the band for about three years. To be honest, I don’t know too much about him and I like him like that. That’s what makes him Daisy. However, I do know that his contribution to our band is enormous and without him we would not sound the way that we do.

Aaron our drummer is the newest member of the band.  The position of Foxy’s drummer, until Aaron, has been one that is filled temporarily but never permanently.  I would never be caught dead in the clothes he wears but, hey, to each his own.  His drum playing is not fancy but it’s extremely solid and is exactly what we’ve been looking for all these years.

Last but not least is Sky White, our pianist who is trained in classical and jazz performance.  I remember Loren and I went to a show his old band was playing and the second I saw him stand on his keyboard with a piñata on his head I knew we had to get him in Foxy Shazam.  It didn’t take too much convincing and a week later we were recording our first album Flamingo Trigger (which came out in 2005) and went on to do Introducing (2008).  Our self-titled major label debut is coming out now.

When I listen to a Foxy Shazam record I think of Evel Knievel, Bruce Springsteen, my childhood, Van Morrison, my old friends from high school I don’t talk to anymore, Elton John, the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and beyond, Iggy Pop and my first kiss.  One of my favorite things to do when listening to my music is to close my eyes and picture a crowd of six million people all chanting “Foxy! Foxy! Foxy!”  The lights go out and my band walks on stage.  It gives me goose bumps.  It all makes sense to me.  When you listen to our record, think of your favorite things and it’ll make sense to you as well.

Foxy Shazam is not concerned with what category it falls into. We want to stand for our generation.

We want to be the biggest band in the world.

We are the Michael Jordan of Rock N’ Roll.

CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN TO RELEASE TRANSYLVANIA TOMORROW
TOUR WITH ALICE IN CHAINS TO START TOMORROW IN VANCOUVER
PERFORMANCE CONFIRMED AT THIS YEAR’S SXSW

Creature With The Atom Brain is thrilled to announce that TRANSYLVANIA will be released tomorrow, February 2nd via The End Records. Marking the band’s North American debut, Creature With The Atom Brain landed an impressive thirteen-date slot opening for Alice In Chains, which also kicks off tomorrow at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver.

Mixed by Chris Goss (Queens Of The Stone Age, Masters Of Reality) and including appearances by Mark Lanegan, TRANSYLVANIA showcases the band’s blend of psychedelia, garage rock, and hypnotizing grooves, while also combining African rhythms, making this album a striking standout from most contemporary independent music. Q Magazine gave the album 4 out of 5 stars and went on to say “long endorsed by Josh Homme, these Belgians’ stoner/psych credentials are impeccable even before Mark Lanegan and Chris Goss signed up for this sublimely lysergic release.”

Creature With The Atom Brain will also make their debut at this year’s SXSW, playing at The End Record’s showcase on Thursday, March 18th at The Ale House. More details to follow.

HELLOWEEN CELEBRATE 25 YEARS WITH THE RELEASE OF

HELLOWEEN CELEBRATE 25 YEARS WITH THE RELEASE OF
UNARMED – BEST OF 25TH ANNIVERSARY

The End Records, under exclusive license from Sony Music Entertainment Germany, is pleased to announce the North American release of Helloween’s long awaited album UNARMED – Best Of 25th Anniversary, out March 30th.

Helloween, one of the most eminent melodic metal bands worldwide and – along with the Scorpions and Accept – Germany’s ultimate metal export, got their start exactly 25 years ago. A total of eleven headlining world tours took the band all over the globe, and their sensational show at the Monsters Of Rock in Castle Donington in front of more than 100,000 metalheads. Spectacular tours alongside Iron Maiden, Dio and Ozzy Osbourne, as well as their MTV Headbangers Ball US tour with Anthrax and Exodus remain unforgotten. Helloween have sold more than five million record! s and garnered 14 gold and 6 platinum awards globally, receiving two gold records in Germany. Now Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Sascha Gerstner (guitar), Markus Großkopf (bass) and Daniel Löble (drums) have set out to prove that their great anthems ooze that special Helloween flair even with totally new arrangements.

UNARMED – Best Of 25th Anniversary is Helloween’s ‘thank-you’ to millions of fans old and new and will prove their exceptional position on the international metal scene. Instead of putting together a regular greatest hits compilation featuring their most successful tracks to celebrate this anniversary, the five band members completely rearranged the greatest melodies they had written in the course of their career to date. The album features Supercharge’s exceptional saxophonist Albie Donnelly, Hellsongs’s vocalist Harriet Ohlsson, pianist Matthias Ulmer, plus the 70-piece Prague Symphonic Orchestra and the choirs of! the Gregorian singers!

As a special surprise, Helloween have come up with ‘The Keeper´s Trilogy’ a stunning 17-minute medley of the songs ‘Halloween’, ‘Keeper Of The Seven Keys’ and ‘The King For A 1000 Years’, recorded in cooperation with the Prague Symphonic Orchestra and likely to send shivers of delight down the spine of every Helloween fan.

UNARMED – Best Of 25th Anniversary sees Helloween commemorate their 25th anniversary in their very own way. “We aren’t one of those bands who like to celebrate themselves,” says Weikath. “We wanted to say thank you in a special way to all our fans who have followed us through the past 25 years – to us, this album stands for an official celebration. We had a lot of fun recording our most important tracks in an entirely new ‘outfit’ and with new arrangements. Now we can’t wait to find out how our fans will react.”

MARIAH CAREY RELEASES NEWLY REMIXED ALBUM OF DUETS – ANGELS ADVOCATE – MARCH 30th ON ISLAND RECORDS & NEW Tour Dates

MARIAH CAREY RELEASES NEWLY REMIXED ALBUM OF DUETS – ANGELS ADVOCATE – MARCH 30th ON ISLAND RECORDS & NEW Tour Dates

TWO NEW DUET SINGLES IMPACTING AT RADIO FORMATS THIS WEEK:

• “Angels Cry” featuring Ne-Yo – at Urban A/C • “Up Out My Face” featuring Nicki Minaj – at Urban and Rhythm

New videos co-directed by Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey for both singles – premiering this week!

“ANGELS ADVOCATE” TOUR CONTINUES ACROSS U.S. & CANADA, THROUGH FEBRUARY 27th CLOSING DATE AT CAESARS PALACE IN LAS VEGAS

(Jan. 28, 2010 – New York, NY) International superstar Mariah Carey has completed her 13th studio album, ANGELS ADVOCATE, a brand new collection of newly remixed duets with some of her favorite artists, performing Mariah’s favorite songs from her #1 R&B album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel (released September 2009).  ANGELS ADVOCATE will be released on March 30th.

In advance of the ANGELS ADVOCATE album release, two new Mariah Carey singles are on the way this week – “Angels Cry” featuring fellow Island Def Jam artist Ne-Yo is impacting at Urban A/C radio, and “Up Out My Face” featuring Nicki Minaj is impacting at Urban and Rhythm radio formats.  New videos for both tracks were co-directed by Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey.  Both videos will premiere at #1 search site VEVO.com on Thursday, January 28th, followed by Friday debuts on MTV and BET. The videos will be available at all platforms starting Monday, February 1st.

Mariah is in the second week of her six week “Angels Advocate” Tour across North America – her first major tour since The “Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, The Hits, The Tour” of August-October 2006.  The opening act on the “Angels Cry” Tour is RydazNrtist, a new R&B group signed to Nick Cannon’s NCredible Entertainment.  (Since mid-January, the tour has played through MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, CT; Fox Theatre in Atlanta; Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, FL; and Fox Theatre in Detroit.  Please see remaining tour dates below.)

ANGELS ADVOCATE (and Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel) follow up Mariah’s multi-platinum E=MC² (2008), and worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005).  The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay.  Soundscan’s biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured “We Belong Together” (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and “Don’t Forget About Us,” Mariah’s 16th and 17th  #1 career singles respectively.  They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1’s.

Three years later, Mariah surpassed Elvis when “Touch My Body” (from E=MC²) became her 18th #1 Hot 100 hit.  “Touch My Body” spent two weeks at the top, Mariah’s 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis’ long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated by Billboard.  Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles’ all-time high of 20 #1 hits.  The success of E=MC² brought total sales of Mariah’s albums, singles and videos to more than 175  million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history.

Just when you thought you’ve heard it all, the best of the best and everything in between, bestowed upon your ears is the thrill of music that’s indescribably indescribable and not because it’s horrid, no, because its sheer superiority challenges any way you could possibly describe this new symphony of excellence… Here’s to five stars well deserved! - Andy Rajan, Wonka Vision Magazine – 5 STARS

Sound Awake is another striking release by a band whose incredible sense of composition and musicianship is mature beyond their years… In A Word: Transcendental.”
